The Jounama Gum Tree twists up out of the ground in spirals
remembering the storms that shaped it.
In high, windy altitudes of southern Australia,
it stays small—
not from weakness
but from knowing the weather.
Loose, oily bark
hangs in curling ribbons.
Bright leaves flicker—
Its strategy is simple:
become the accomplice of fire.
When fallen bark catches alight,
everything burns.
And from the ashes
its young rise up strong—
Over the top?
maybe – But this is an Australian tree!
